What the hell! Zombie food?!
This is a fascinating article/blog post on something, probably, no one has any idea is happening to farmers around the world.
Apparently seed producing corporations are genetically engineering seeds that will become sterile after one growing season there by forcing farmers to purchase more seeds. The UN and many other nations said, “No, that’s probably not a good idea.”
So now seed producing corporations are producing Zombie seeds that remain sterile until a third product - in the form of a fertilizer or other material - is spread over the fields, there by activating the seeds to grow.
This means farmers have to purchase the seeds, and the reactive agent to make them grow.
Tell me again why the monetary system (and unchecked capitalism) is such a great way to run a society and how corporations have the best interests of the people in mind when developing products?
Am I reading the post incorrectly?

It is how I read the post. The zombie seeds made me think of many “what if” scenes. One was- what if these seeds get mixed in with good seeds (they all look like seeds) and a third world country ends up with the mix of seeds but only a few living plants come up. They did not realize a chemical was needed to activate the seeds or they could not even afford to purchase the “chemical”. Millions of poor farmers starve. Children starve.
My Grandpa was a farmer in NH. Seeds were equal to gold or money in the bank. Seeds were saved from crops and traded with other farmers. That gave the farmers a chance for variety and also protection. A late frost might mean a field was re-seeded with a different strain of crop that would florish in the warmer weather of July rather than June as was expected by the first planting. Think of how many types of lettuce there is- beans!
In economics our class learned about “Corporate Capitalism”. What a twist on capitalism. If I recall, Corporate Capitalism was described as a capalist marketplace characterized by hierachical,, bureaucratic organziations which are LEGALLY required to pursue a profit. All or most of the means of production are owned by the corporation.
When I worked at Pratt n’ Whitney I had to sign a paper agreeing that anything I invented while employed belonged to the company. I signed the paperwork knowing that I would never invent anything in this lifetime and as a data entry clerk ther was no issue. But it was the first time I realized that my father had also had to sign the same paper and he was a designing engineer at Pratt.
The arguement is that most inventors do not have access to labs to work. Perhaps we will never see another Edison. How sad is that!?!
Thomas Jefferson once claimed that corporation would destroy the world- here come the Zombie seeds!!!
