I am perfect.

January 17th, 2009

One of my classes this semester is Organizational Behavior. Our final (and only) report is a five page essay on our core competencies as known by ourselves and the people around us.

So I’m throwing a call out for insights into my flaws and strengths as seen by the people I know. Please note that if you don’t know me your comment will hold less weight than people who do but won’t be completely worthless. Random guessing is a legit human process and I embrace the concept - mostly.  But it does have its drawbacks - especially in the area of universal origins and meaning of life stuff.

I’d like to get feedback on flaws mostly. They stand out more brightly as being completely wrong and my big brain can skip over them more easily. But if you have any strengths you’d like to share I’d welcome those as well. Oh and if you have any witty quotes I can use as coming from my friends/family it would go a long way toward filling out the five pages.

Not that I’ll need it, the source material is very rich and robust. Unfotunately he won’t allow photos. (I gained fifteen pounds since I started my new job! Eeek!)

But seriously I’m very interesting and feel I can easily write this paper and get an A with or without any so called insights by the people around me - otherwise known as the lower ones. But if they feel the need to better themselves and talk to me about me I will not discourage them in any way.

I await no one but will check back in a couple days for what might have been left. (It’s an eight week class so it goes rather quickly. Can’t delay too long you know. Of course you don’t. That’s ok.)

 Let’s get this started. 8^)

Thinking out loud

    Strength:
You are one of the most generous people I know. You are very giving towards your friends, whether it be small thoughtful gifts or the offer of help with a project. This is not to say that you are naively generous, just kind to those people you believe are deserving.

    Flaws:
You knew this was coming, but you don’t always check your facts or spell-check. Case in point, in this particular blog post you stated, “I’d like to get feedback on flaws mostly. They stand out more brightly as being completely wrong and my big brian can skip over them more easily.”
You wrote “brian”. I think you meant “brain”, unless you were making some obscure “Family Guy” reference.

That’s not to say you don’t know your stuff, because you actually have a treasure trove of interesting facts in your “brian”. It’s just sometimes when you are writing them down, they don’t come out exactly 100% accurate.

Please know the comments above are from a friend. In no way are they intended to be mean. I think the world of you and am just trying to help you out with your project.

Good luck buddy! Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

The first thing that came to my mind was loyalty which could come under ethics and or team player-

Remember when Scott was exposed to chicken pox and instead of getting the pox he got the herpes infection in his eye? You were the only one of his little friends from the neighborhood who visited him during the many months he had to be kept at home in a dark room (any light caused such pain). After he went back to school the teasing started. You were there for him like a one man/child support group. Your loyalty was a ray of sunshine for both his mom and dad.

I have known you about 34 years and have been continously amazed by your imagination and talents. Sharing poetry, music you have written, plays you have acted in, philosophy, politics and life stuff has been an inspiration for me. I took my first writing class because you believed I had some talent and actually read what I had tried to write.

Perhaps your fault is being a bit scattered because you are such a diverse and multi-task type of thinker. You are a mentor for many people (including family. It would be nice for you to have a mentor as talented as yourself.

Communication Competency - I think you’re a very good communicator, but you don’t really reveal a lot about yourself. Sometimes I feel like I don’t know that much about your past or you as a person.

Diversity Competency - You’re pretty diverse. What’s that even mean? Who isn’t? But based on your music collection that I copied a long time ago, and the fact that you have tried or are good at just about everything, I would say you’re diverse.

Ethics Competency - If you wanted a flaw there, I would say that sometimes your morals and ethics seem far out of the norm. Not scary, but much more liberal than most people.

Across Cultures Competency - as far as I know you don’t hate anyone.

Team Competency - based on your skills as a role player, you’re good on a team.

Change Competency - I think you fear change. But then again, you’re going through a shit load of change right now. Was it just fear of being conformist?
