Tools required to mow the yard
January 6th, 2008
I mowed the yard on Saturday and as in the words of a friend of mine I “jocked out.”
I spent from 9am to 1:20 pm working outside and then came inside took a shower and sleep til 6pm. I was very tired.
To help you prepare for working in your yard I have compiled a list of tools you may need:
Pliers
Loopers ![]()
Lots of String Coils for trimmer
Ear Protection
Safety Glassses
Chapstick
After a couple hours of hard labor you to may have a beige (but trim) winter lawn like this:

That sure is a lot of “yard”! Look on the bright side- if you lose your job you are set up to go into the “yard business”!
Oh, it’s all bright here. Shiny.
I just hadn’t worked on the yard in so long it was five times as much work to get it back to reasonable level.
Winter is a good time to work in the yard because it’s much much cooler than the oven like tempatures we get during the rest of the year.
Glad you enjoyed the images. Some you can click on and others just didn’t need to see the larger view. Off to play some disc golf this AM.
You Forgot one more tool, A brother on vacation!
Tis true. I didn’t forget.
I have in mind another post. I’m going to do a before and after of the time you and Mark showed up for a week and we tore the yard a new one.
I have those pictures I just haven’t organized them yet. That was a fantastic week!
Truth be told, I would be no where near where I am today regarding yardwork without that week and later friends who have come out to help.
What are the bolt cutters, pliers and loopers for? Excuse my yard IQ:)
Not at all.
You have to have worked my land to understand why bolt cutters are needed. There is a lot of “stuff” from the previous owners still lying around and in the ground, bushes, trees, etc.
I have in mind a before and after photo gallery of the steps that have been involved in taming this site for living.
As mentioned before my brothers came out one summer and we spent a little over a week clearing and cutting and burning.
This was the jump I needed to really get into the property. Without that initial effort I’d probably be still moving stumps.
But that’s for my blog. I’ll organize the photos, because I’ve taken before and after photos of every major effort to work on the property, and make some pages of those events so people can see the progress over time.
I even have pictures of the chigger infestation of 2004. Where I spent four days soaking in a hot bath reading books. The pain was unbareable. No I don’t have pictures of me in a bath but I do have picture of my legs covered in spots. The spots didn’t stop there and went all the up into my danger-zone and lower chest. I really hate chiggers.
Until then, thanks for reading. Tell all your friends.
Oh yeah, so the bolt cutters are used to snip barb wire, cabling for tv, chain link fence and other type wires that get snagged by the string trimmer.
When hitting such a cache of wire it usually takes fiftee minutes to cut the wire free from the machine. Bolt cutters come in real handy. Pliers are to tighten the string trimmer nuts after they get loosened.
Loopers are for small bushes and trees that are too small for a chainsaw (nothing is too small for a chainsaw but I just don’t need to bring it out) and I can just chop them and continue mowing.
It’s a multi-step process, that is getting easier each time I do it.
