The Chart is Up

December 31st, 2007

I created the icons and exercise chart table on the “Road to Mt. Olympus” page. I considered Ripped like Buddha (because it’s much funnier than my current title and more … umm.. accurate) as the title but considering it’s a page keeping track of positive progress I didn’t want to be too negative even for a laugh.

I’ve gotten a lot of good advice and all for recipes and cooking. Something that seems like a good idea is getting a rice cooker. There is a $20 one from Target with a steamer at the top.

I’m debating whether the cost of a rice cooker to cook healthy food is warrented since I can cook rice in a pot at any time. But there are advantages to a rice cooker. I definitely need new pots and pans. The ones I have now I’ve had since 1998 (and longer) and the non-stick surface and bottoms are looking really bad. I’m cooking with a copper bottom pot my mom got me a while ago and that is keeping up nicely if a pain since I only have one and must constantly clean it. I looked into getting new pots and pans before this year started but I just didn’t know what I’ll need for these recipes and what I may be cooking and since they were all $20+ per pot/pan I decided to hold off on that.

If I’m to eat better in this experiment I may need to purchase better tools toward that end. I’ll give January a trial run with the kitchen stuff I have and then make a decision in February.

See, being reasonably frugal already. (Did you know all right is two words? Alright - which I have used for nearly two decades - is considered nonstandard English and wrong. Just a little something I picked up the other day. All right then on with the post.)

I’ll be posting as time permits and I begin to more fully fill in the static pages of the site. As always free to post comments and suggestions. They are always welcome and helpful.

Well that’s all I have for now. I’ve bought better food, I’ve got some links to consignment shops in my area which may be interested in my extra clothing, electronics and such to get additional income, and I have an exercise plan ready to be used. I’m all geared up for the new year.

Should be interesting.

Enjoying the blog very much!! I would definitely get a rice cooker. I have a Salton brand (model?) which is kinda small and perfect for one person. You’ll get a few meals out of one batch. It’s like TiVo. . . it will change your life, and you’ll wonder how you lived without it.

Sort of off-topic. Have you tried cleaning the copper on your copper-bottom pots with catsup/ketchup? Sounds crazy but you smear some catsup on the copper portion of the pan. Let it sit there for about 60 seconds, then rinse. The acid in the catsup is the perfect cleaner for copper bottom pots. Crazy.

    Thanks Mark.

I do have some comics for sale as soon as I find the box I stored them in. My big comic for sale item is the original Star Wars comics from the 1970s. I think I’m missing about 20-30 of a 100+ run so I have most of them. I also have the BIG movie poster comics also. I’ll take some pictures and get them online.

I’ll be selling dvd collections, music collections (150+), electronics and other quality goods. 8^)

I’m gonna give this month some time before plunging into the rice cooker. I just need to find an appropriate one: dishwasher safe, timer, 7 cup with steamer rack. Those seem to be the most important features.

Thanks for posting. I’ll look into the Salton brand.

    Thanks Shag.

My copper bottom pots are not burned on the bottom. There is just one that is kinda warped and when it gets really hot it sorta skips around the stove top back and forth. But it’s my largest pot so I just haven’t gotten rid of it yet.

Thanks for the advice though, I’ll put it on my list of “Did you know?” facts. (I’m gonna make a page.) 8^)
